New format.

For the first time, we are running the men’s event to the new, two-stage format.  This avoids the need to split the first round, and ensures that everyone gets a good day’s fencing.  Stronger fencers come into the event at the later stage (effectively top 77) but still get plenty of fencing.  Normally, this format would allow us to accept a larger entry and we would not need to limit the entry.

We start with 77 fencers at 9.00am, 11 poules to incomplete 64, promoting top 32 to second phase.

45 more fencers come in at 11.30am, and fence a round of poules, promoting to incomplete 64, then DE to the final (around 5.30pm).

Women’s event will be run conventionally, with an entry limited to 77 places; poules of 7, promotion to L64, DE to final, around 4.00pm.
